Abstract

The oppression of women is a scenario that has been observed since older societies, each of them in a different context, different conceptions, but with the common characteristic of perceiving women as an object that could be possessed, oppress and, for this, violence in several ways. However, when they realized that they could be independent subjects and, at least, respected, women started to seek to have their rights recognized and their autonomy respected, not being the victim of any type of oppression. This oppression becomes especially relevant when it is manifested in a violent manner, which can occur through psychological, financial, physical and other means. Therefore, having this universe as a point of observation, this research aimed to investigate the efficiency of the Maria da Penha Law and the legal action in the rapid resolution of conflicts that result in the high rates of domestic violence against women still observed in Brazil. The methodological procedure chosen consisted of a bibliographic review, which used the dialectical method, with an investigative systematic to gather the necessary information for the feasibility of a critical reflection on the theme. The results showed that the protection of women's rights and the promotion of equality between genders in society have evolved considerably, including the intervention of international bodies to achieve this objective and to supervise the performance of States on the subject. However, it was possible to conclude that the current situation is still not ideal, given that the rates of violence against women remain high, demonstrating the need to develop new strategies and more effective actions that can really create a safe and secure environment. equality for these subjects in society.
