Abstract: Even though air pollution levels are below what is permitted by law, it is still damaging to human health. People affected by air pollution mainly develop diseases of the respiratory tract. Affecting, above all, the most susceptible populations that are the children and the elderly. Roraima is one of the states that do not have a monitoring network for air pollutants. The state is part of the Amazon region which, in turn, consists of extensive forests and vegetation, which are increasingly exploited, through felling and consequently burned, generating an accumulation of pollutants in the air, and thus bringing various damages to the health of population. In order to have an adequate quality of life, a balance must be struck between population, natural resources and pollution, with the utmost effort to do so. Overall objective: To analyze the relationship between hospitalizations of children for all respiratory diseases and air pollution in the state of Roraima between 2009 and 2013. Methodology: This is an observational analytical ecological type study of time series. A descriptive analysis was made of all the study variables that are population, rate of hospitalization for respiratory diseases, number of vehicular fleet and numbers of fires. The tabulations and analyzes of the data were performed for the state of Roraima stratified by municipality. Thematic mapping was the chosen option for the generation of risk maps considering its potential as an intuitive and easy to use tool to communicate the results of environmental risk assessments. Descriptive analysis, chi-square, Kruskal-Wallis, and Dunn's multiple comparisons were performed. The level of significance was 5%. Results: After dividing the state of Roraima into four microregions, it was observed that microregion 1 had the highest hospitalization rates of children under five years of age, together with the highest numbers of outbreaks of fires and vehicle fleet in the years studied. corroborating with findings in several studies that make the association between air pollution and adverse health effects. Conclusion: The present study demonstrated that in the state of Roraima, between January 2009 and December 2013, there was an association between hospitalizations of children under five years of age due to respiratory diseases and air pollution, and that this work as a reference for decision-making for the effective implementation of stations of control and monitoring of air pollutants in the state, for the benefit of the entire population.
