O Instituto Municipal de Comércio de Santos: da fundação ao ginásio secundário (1948-1953).

Abstract

This dissertation tells a bit about the history of Santos education, more specifically about the Municipal Institute of Commerce of Santos, currently called ETEC ""Acácio de Paula Leite Sampaio"". A school that is abandoned, in the center of the city of Santos, São Paulo, Brazil. It has been present in the municipality since 1948, the period to which this research is centered. There are no academic texts on this Institute, which makes the memory of this institution unknown until the present moment. This dissertation tries to understand how its foundation was given? What were your initial goals? Who were the students, teachers, staff and the direction of this institution? The research seeks to understand what Augustin Escolano (2017) calls the ""political culture"" of the school, which according to him is the main school culture, where are the norms, contexts and structures. Using the documentary historical method, the archives of the Education Department of Santos, of the Archive and Memory Foundation of Santos, were consulted in newspapers of the time and in the memoir of the first director. This report is divided into four chapters: the first is devoted to understanding the memory of Otavio Antunes Filgueiras, who founded the Institute and is the first director; in the second, the context of the city is inserted in 1948 and the debates in the town hall; in the third chapter we have the rules the structures and the establishment; in the fourth and last chapter are analyzed the contexts of the first students, teachers and employees.
