Programa Nacional de Assistência Estudantil (PNAES) e sua relação com a permanência do aluno do ensino superior

Abstract

This study aims to highlight the effectiveness of the National Student Assistance Program (PNAES) in higher education of the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of São Paulo (IFSP) and to verify the effectiveness of this public policy in the permanence of higher education students in situations of social and economic vulnerability. The study was an exploratory research, carried out through documentary analysis of IFSP material, obtained through a report of the SUAP system related to 1597 students of higher education of the IFSP, from a campus in the metropolitan region of Baixada Santista, for whom a questionnaire with open and closed questions was also applied. From the return of the questionnaire sent, 56 responses of these students were qualitatively analyzed. The data were analyzed by statistical methods and content analysis, since the approach used was mixed-method. The results obtained show a very high amount of dropout, and evidenced the effectiveness of the program in the IFSP, showing that of the students who graduated in the period from 2017 to 2021, 64% received support from PNAES, but also demonstrates that many students did not receive the resource, which denotes the urgency of increasing the budget for this program to be able to serve all those who are entitled. This study shows the need for greater care with students in vulnerable situations, and it is necessary to: observe the subjectivity of the individual, enabling psychosocial assistance necessary for better use in their studies; to check what phase of life this student is going through, its crises and basic strengths, in order to better understand it; give them the support they need to stay in higher education.
